However, with some training from the ’12 Turtles, they manage to figure out how to become better fighters, and even get to use their weapons for once. The problem the ’87 Turtles have throughout is that they are used to being in a world where the bad guys are far less ruthless, and they can get by using such gags as dropping boxes on the villains or spraying them with fire hydrants to subdue them. While “Trans-Dimensional Turtles” served as a love letter to the ’87 cartoon, “Wanted: Beebop and Rocksteady” is more of a deconstruction, demonstrating how its goofy antics would work in a more realistic setting. Things hit a sour note as the ’87 Turtles find themselves struggling to battle the more competent villains of the modern dimension, and their ’12 counterparts take it upon themselves to train them for the final battle ahead, a battle that will determine the fate of two universes. Meanwhile, the ’87 Turtles follow them and partner up with their ’12 doppelgangers, who have grown restless due to a lack of action in the wake of the Foot being largely defeated.

“Hold Up, You Did What To Shredder In This Dimension?!?”įed up with constant defeat at the hands of the Turtles, the Shredder and Krang of the 1987 cartoon take their Technodrome into the 2012 dimension, where they recruit that world’s Beebop and Rocksteady to help them acquire the items they need to power the ship’s doomsday weapon to its full protentional and rule over all of existence.

So much so that Nickelodeon execs ordered it to be retconned into a “what-if” tale airing in the middle of the season, with the aforementioned crossover serving as the official finale, finally brining the excellent series to a close after 5 years. It wasn’t bad by any means (in fact, it might actually be one of my favorite episodes of the series… in a vacuum), but it threw a major wrench in the series’ continuity and left the show on a rather depressing note. What was originally planned to serve as the show’s swan-song was a three-episode storyline that jumped ahead to the far future, in a bleak, post-apocalyptic setting that featured the Turtles separated and most of the supporting cast dead. Sure, it was mostly filler, but it was good filler for the most part…

With the main storyline of the past four seasons being resolved for good following the Shredder’s death at the hands of Leo (via decapitation, how else?) Season 5 consisted primarily of stand-alone mini-arcs meant to tie up a few of the show’s remaining loose ends, in addition to providing a few more fun adventures involving the Turtles fighting classic movie monsters and meeting Myamoto Usagi in an alternate feudal Japan.

After Season 4’s explosive finale, the fifth and final season of the show went through a slight change in format, signified with the title changing to “Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and the theme song being replaced by a jazzy instrumental piece reminiscent of Cowboy Beebop. But not only that, this episode ultimately ended up as the series finale of the 2012 show ala Turtles Forever – albeit only after the fact. I guess for this week, I might as well finish the TMNT ’12 crossovers with the second and final time the Turtles of that show joined forces with the cast of the ’87 cartoon, the Season 5 three-part saga known collectively as “Wanted: Beebop and Rocksteady,” in which the villains of the ’87 show trade in their versions of the titular duo with their ’12 counterparts – who are a former Russian arms dealer and high-tech thief in this version. This might take a while, I better watch something to pass the time… He plugs his computer into it and resumes his work.įox: Maybe I can use the Kraang’s Transmat to boost the signal to Eva, then I can finally get back to my dimension. He heads over to a large platform in the middle of the room, a teleporter known as the Transmat. He reaches his laptop and starts typing.įox: Okay, now to find a way back home… I wonder… Once they are gone, Fox steps out of the box and runs into the lab. The scientists leave, carelessly walking past the random cardboard box in the middle of the hallway. How about we head to the room that is the Break Room to consume the beverage known as coffee? Kraang #1: So far, no progress on unlocking the secrets that which are the secrets of the device that was used by the one who is the fox to transport himself to Dimension X. He waits by the door for the two Kraang scientists decide to leave. He eventually sneaks over to the room his laptop is being held, a Kraang laboratory. The story picks up in the hallway of the Technodrome, where Fox is sneaking past a pair of Kraang Guards in a cardboard box ala-Solid Snake.
